Solutions to common issues and frequently asked questions about Z-Text.

Sync Issues

App is stuck syncing

Blockchain syncing can take time, especially on first launch or after being offline for an extended period. Try the following:

  • Ensure you have a stable internet connection
  • Check if the BitcoinZ network is experiencing issues
  • Try switching to a different node in Settings > Network
  • Force-close the app and reopen it
  • If the progress bar hasn't moved in over 10 minutes, the connected node may be unresponsive

Balance shows zero after recovery

After recovering a wallet from a seed phrase, the app needs to scan the blockchain from your wallet's creation height. This process can take time. Let the sync complete fully before expecting your balance to appear.

Messaging Problems

Messages not sending

  • Check that you have enough BTCZ for the transaction fee
  • Ensure the handshake with the contact is completed (status shows "Active")
  • Verify your internet connection is working
  • Check that the app is fully synced to the latest block

Messages not arriving

  • The recipient must sync their app to the latest block to see new messages
  • Messages typically arrive in 1-5 seconds via G-stream push. If delayed, the recipient's app may need to resync
  • If using a light client, try syncing manually from Settings

Message Delivery

Z-Text uses G-stream mempool push for near-instant message delivery. Messages arrive in 1-5 seconds after broadcast. Block confirmation follows later for permanent settlement on the blockchain.

Handshake Issues

Handshake request not appearing for recipient

  • Verify you sent it to the correct z-address
  • The recipient needs to sync their app to see the request
  • The handshake transaction must be broadcast and detected via G-stream

Handshake expired

Handshake requests expire after a set period if not accepted. Simply send a new handshake request to try again.

Wallet Issues

Transaction stuck as pending

If a transaction remains "Pending" for an extended time, it may be waiting for miner inclusion. This is rare but can happen during network congestion. The transaction will either confirm or be dropped from the mempool eventually.

Incorrect balance displayed

  • Wait for sync to complete fully
  • Check both shielded and transparent balances
  • If the issue persists after full sync, try a wallet rescan from Settings

FAQ

Do I need to pay to use Z-Text?

Z-Text is free to download and the wallet works without a license. To use the messenger, send raw memo messages, or save new passwords in the blockchain password manager, you need an active software license. After expiry, you can still receive messages and read saved passwords, but cannot send or save.

Can I use Z-Text without BTCZ?

You need BTCZ to perform any blockchain transactions. Without an active software license, the messenger is not available — though you can still receive messages and use basic wallet functions.

Is Z-Text truly anonymous?

Yes. Z-Text requires no phone number, email, or personal information to sign up. It uses ZkSNARKs shielded transactions and collects no user data. Your identity is a cryptographic z-address with no link to your real identity, making your messaging fully anonymous.

What happens if I lose my device?

If you backed up your 24-word seed phrase, you can restore your wallet on a new device. Your messages and contacts will be recovered through blockchain scanning.

Can deleted messages be recovered?

Messages are stored on the blockchain permanently. Even if you delete them locally from the app, they can be recovered by rescanning the blockchain with your wallet keys.
